New World Best Time: 55-59 500m Time Trial Final
Dave Willmott (Australia) on his way to taking the initial event in the UCI Track Cycling World Masters Championships 2009 at the Dunc Gray Velodrome. Willmott set a new World Best Time in taking the Mens 55-59 500m Time Trial Final. This was the second time Willmott had been able to achieve a World Best Time within the space of a week.
New World Best Time: 75+ 500m Time Trial Final
On day 1 in the Mens 75+ 500m Time Trial Final Thomas O'Rourke (USA) broke his own World Best Time to take the Gold Medal from Kenneth Orr (CAN) and Brian Kennedy (AUS). O'Rourke recorded 42.81 bettering his previous record of 43.11 set earlier this year in Colorado Springs.
New World Best Time: 50-54 500m Time Trial Final
On day 1 in the Mens 50-54 500m Time Trial Final, David Le Grys of Great Britain set a new World Best Time in taking the gold medal from Gary Mandy (AUS) and Paul Jackson (AUS). Le Grys' time of 34.450 broke the previous record set by Roy Simonson (USA) in Colorado Springs 2002.
Philippe Vernet celebrates
In the Mens Time Trial 45-49, Philippe Vernet (FRA) was able to defend the title he won last year in 2008 Championships. Vernet defeated John Colette (AUS) and Ivor Reid (GBR) to take the Gold Medal in the time of 50.311.
Williams surges to victory in record time
On day 2, Annette Williams (USA) broke her own World Best Time by 5.11 stopping the clock at 2:31.270. Williams beat her rivals Helen Griffiths (AUS) and Megan Blatchford (NZL) to take the Gold Medal in the Womens 45-49 2000m Individual Pursuit Qualification.
Lawrence Nolan's new World Best Time
On day 2, Lawrence Nolan (USA) produced a ride that broke a World Best Time that Ian Hallam (GBR) set 10 years ago, in the Mens 50-54 Pursuit Qualifying Rd. The new record is now 2:17.051 and allowed Nolan to take the Gold Medal at the Championships, defeating James Host (USA) and Stephane Le Beau (CAN).
New World Best Time for Australia in the 135+ Men’s Team Sprint as they celebrate their victory
In the 135+ Men’s Team Sprint, Australia set a new World Best Time with the team of David Willmott, Gavin White and Geoff Stoker. They broke a previous 6 year old record set in Manchester which stood at 48.311. The 2009 Gold Medallist team stopped the clock at 47.845 to better the previous mark.
Gold Medal For New Zealand
Megan Blatchford from New Zealand won the 45-49 5000m Scratch Race Final on Day 3. She defeated Makiko Hamada (JPN) and Annette Williams (USA) after 20 laps of competition.
New World Best Time for Geoff Stoker (AUS)
On day 4, Geoff Stoker (AUS) set a new World Best Time in the Mens 45-49 Sprint Qualifying Road. The previous World Best Time was set by Peter Barnard (AUS) in 2007 at the World Masters Championships recording a time of 11.117. The new record posted by Geoff Stoker is now 11.111.
Gold Medal for Gavin White (AUS)
On day 5, Gavin White (AUS) won the Gold Medal in the Mens 35-39 Sprint Final after having won the Silver Medal last year. White got his revenge after being defeated last year when the Gold Medallist subsequently ended up being positive at the doping control. The race was contested in great sporting spirit competing against rival Justin Grace (NZL) who took the Silver Medal.
